Fort Fisher State Rec AArea & Historic Site

The Fort Fisher State Recreation Area in Kure Beach provides opportunities for everyone in the family to have fun. The park allows four-wheel drive beach access for those who love to explore or surf fish.

The site is also home to a Confederate fort during the American Civil War and offers a newly built 20,000 square foot visitors center, guided tours, monuments and outdoor exhibits.

Trails
Basin Trail
This 2.2 mile long hike takes you through the marshes and past a World War 2 bunker. At its end, you'll be led to an observation deck with incredible views of the Cape Fear River and Zeke's Island.

Beach Hike
The Fort Fisher State Recreation Area offers visitors 5 miles of beach to explore. In the warmer months, Loggerhead Sea Turtles come to lay their eggs. There are certain areas of the beach with four-wheel drive access.
